1968 Collector's catalog
The 1968 Hot Wheels Catalogs came in two versions: the early
Cheetah version and the
standard production version.
Both catalogs listed the original 16 Hot Wheels cars and
some
of the early track sets and accessories.

Front cover of the Cheetah version

Front cover of the standard version
The front covers are identical,
except the production number (6200-1110) is printed in
the
lower right corner on standard
version, it is not printed on the Cheetah version. Also, the
trademarks (TM) are different.

Back cover of the Cheetah version

Back cover of the standard version

The catalog back covers are different. The collector's log box is
located on the back cover of the
Cheetah version. The standard version's back cover is yellow blank with
Mattel logo printed in
the middle. The collector's log box is located inside on the backside
of the back cover of the
standard version.

Pictures of the Cheetah/Python in each
version.
Both drawings are identical on both versions, except for the
blower intake scoop on the Cheetah
and the injector carbs on the Python. Of course the first one is called
Cheetah and the later one was
changed to Python.

Pictures of the Deora in each version.
Both drawings of the Deora are different! The Cheetah version's
white surfboards are detailed with
red stripes and fins. Also there are intake side scoops on the Deora
body side. They were deleted
on the standard version and the surfboard colors changed to red and
yellow.
The Cheetah version catalog has only 14 pages. It also includes:
Drag-Race Action Set
Stunt Action Set
Strip Action Set
The standard version catalog
has 26 pages. It includes the same as above with the
following additions:
Pop-Up Play Sets
Hot Curves Race Action Set
Pop-Up Speedway Action Set
Add-On Accessories
12-Car Rally Case
24-Car Collector's Case
Pop-Up 12-Car Collector's Case
The German "Heisse Raeder"
version catalog also has some interesting variations.
