Discussion:

The Seasider, designed by Howard Rees was released in 1970 continuing the tradition of "in-house" designed concept cars started in 1969.

Seasider

Although the two seater, boat-toting Seasider harkens back to the El Camino or the Fleetside, its all Howard's design.

Seasider

Released for the 1970 model year, the Seasider is powered by a big V8 engine with dual side pipes on each side of the body
that sports black trim paint along the sides and on the grille. The Seasider rides on capped wheels and has a dark interior.

Seasider

The bed of the Seasider accomodates the boat which snaps into the two slots in the base at the rear. The front features a black painted grille.

Seasider Normal Dual Pipe Base

The normal Seasider has dual pipes on each side of the base.

Reproduction Seasider Boats

The original boat came with either a white or orange top or vice versa, never a solid color. The boat has been extensively reproduced
and cost only a few dollars. It is not easy to discriminate between the original boats and the repops.

Prototypes:

Based on a single transitional screw base prototype, it is evident that the Seasider was derived from the Custom Fleetside casting.

Evolution of the Seasider: Seasider Unspun Body - Transitional Body - Custom Fleetside Body

The Fleetside on the left, has multiple characteristics carried over to the light blue prototype body and the unspun zamac Seasider body shows additional modifications.

Above: Light Blue Seasider Prototype with modified Fleetside Base Below: Seasider Base

The base of the light blue Seasider Prototype was made by modifying a Custom Fleetside base, removing the open header pipes and adding the single side pipes.

Multiple examples of complete preproduction Seasiders are known, in orange, aqua and lime. They all have the single pipe base. Most have a white or translucent interiors
One orange example is know with a dark interior.

Seasider Normal Dual Pipe vs. Preproduction Single Pipe Bases

The normal Seasider (below) has dual pipes on each side of the base. Also, the rear bumper where the boat snaps into place was altered.
