1969: Custom Turbine
Casting Variations:
The base of the Custom Turbine exhibits some variations.
- Length of the Headlights
- Length of the base at rear
- Nippled Exhaust
Paint Colors:
The Custom Turbine came in a myriad of colors and probably four finishes:
- Shiny Lacquer
- Mirror Finish
- Dull Lacquer
- Enamel?
Interior:
The interior of the Turbine is integral with the base casting.
- Unpainted
- Black
- White
- Red
Glass:
The plastic dome or bubble is removable and is frequently missing. Later reproductions of the model are a source of replacement domes.
- Tinted blue/green
- Early canopy domes are larger, called "Fatty Domes"
Wheels:
- Goodyear Redline
- 2nd Year BW
Comments:
The Custom Turbine is one of the most widely produced models in the Johnny Lightning line up.

Headlight Length Variation
The short headlight (R) is the common version. The longer (L) one is more rare.
Base Length Variation
The longer one is the most common (R). The one in the middle may be the result of a tool or casting flaw.
"Nipple" Exhaust Variation
The normal exhaust is flat inside.
Interior Variations
The interior in most examples is unpainted. The painted seats are rare and came in 3 colors. The turbine casing area behind the seats has been found painted in silver.
"Fatty" Dome Variation
The "Fatty Dome" is believed to be an early release variation.

Shawn's Take!
The Custom Turbine is another high volume casting. Its commonly found in lime, blue , red and purple. Mirror colors for the Turbine are purple, lavender, gold, and
orange. The Turbine comes with and without painted interiors. Painted interiors are usually more pricey. A common color car with raw interior can be gotten for $30.
A root beer, if you find one is $200-$300. A ruby with red interior sold for $225. A honey gold with white painted interior recently sold for $201. Mirror cars with
painted interiors are also more pricey than raw, $100. With a white interior $225. Gold mirrors raw $200 with white interior $300+.
