The Alive '55 is derived from the 1973 Alive '55 casting.
Base Comparison 1973 (T) vs. 1974 (B)
For the Flying Colors release, the base was modified to remove some of the engine detail and to add crush protection to the front wheels.
The hole in the center is probably an addition to aid in assembly when crimping the axles into the base.
